Standing Tasks

Coronet Peak Tasks V4

The button above will take you to the webpage.

Below is the first part of the explanation of the standing tasks….

The following standard tasks have been set in and around the Coronet Peak flying site to provide focus for pilots who are looking to test or improve their flying in the following ways:

  • effective thermal flying
  • getting used to flying a competition task
  • becoming familiar with using flight instruments
  • help honing the skills required for a 20km cross country flight
  • The uploaded track logs are also a good way to see how other pilots have flown the tasks, where they found lift, what lines they took – a really good resource for getting your head around XC flying.

The tasks can be done on any flyable day and have been set with varying levels of difficulty – please note that some tasks will not be suitable for newer or less experienced pilots. Pilots are responsible for their own safety and decision-making. Please do not fly if conditions are unsuitable for the chosen task, especially in lee conditions for non-SIV pilots. If in doubt about conditions please talk to one of the local schools or commercial tandem operators.
A Vario/GPS is not required but is recommended. If you don’t have a Vario/GPS then a smartphone can be used as a tracking device (more info at the end of this document). If you really don’t want to fly with any technology, the tasks have been set based on visual landmarks and can be flown by sight.
